Trends in sociaal ondernemerschap

Welke trends staan ons dit jaar te wachten? Trends voorspellen is natuurlijk altijd lastig, helemaal in een tijd waarin recessie of zelfs depressie bij iedereen op de lippen bestorven ligt. Aan de ene kant biedt zo’n periode kansen om het anders te doen – niet voor niets is Obama in de VS tot president verkozen- aan de andere kant is het ook een stuk lastiger om iets nieuws te beginnen omdat er minder financiering, fondsen en subsidies zijn.  

Veel deskundigen wagen zich toch of daarom – het is maar hoe je het bekijkt- aan voorspellingen. In deze post, en een paar andere, ga ik in op wat vooral buitenlandse goeroes voorspellen en op wat ik verwacht voor dit jaar.

Nathaniel Whittemore, oprichter van het Center for Global Engagement aan de Northwestern University in de VS, beschrijft 7 trends die hij voor dit jaar verwacht. Wat mij betreft is een van de belangrijkste die hij voorspelt online action platforms:

‘The internet is dramatically expanding the ways in which we can aggregate and harness individual people’s desire to contribute to change. Online action platforms will continue to grow as social entrepreneurs tap into their networks more creatively.’

Beth Kanter, social media goeroe voor non-profits, zet een hele hoop deskundigen op een rijtje die voorspellingen doen voor 2009. Haar belangrijkste conclusie laat ze verwoorden door Pete Blackshaw.

‘This is similar to what Pete Blackshaw is predicting in terms of “social media indigestion.”  I just have to quote him because he says it sooooo well:

“Many of us are going to wake up in 2009 wondering what did we eat?  Everything from hastily assembled friends list to twitter followers to groups, apps, and widgets that we “impulse adopted” yet rarely revisited.   Some of us will join the Social Media equivalent of Weight Watchers eager to trim the excess and rediscover a modicum of “don’t follow everything” discipline.”

AppAfrica, de tech blog voor sociale innovaties in Afrika, komt met 8 voorspellingen. Behalve dat hij veel technische vooruitgang voorspelt, voorziet hij ook dat innovaties in watertechnologie de trend gaan worden. Water Cone 

‘5. Innovations in Water Technology
The one resource that the world needs more than anything else on the planet is being strained by over population, pollution, and global warming. In 2009, I predict we’ll see a tipping point of innovations in water technologies. Whether it’s simple solutions like the Water Cone or more advanced things like Max Water.’


Trendwatcher Hilde Roothart tenslotte heeft op Trendslog een ‘hot or not in 2009’-lijst gepubliceerd. Belangrijkste conclusies: het huidige economische klimaat maakt – gelukkig- een eind aan obsceen consumentisme en lijkt de wereld een stuk socialer te maken.
